This week Sumit Bose speaks to Chris Skidmore MP whose Net Zero Blueprint was published last month and they discuss the state of our progress and why he still feels optimistic we can hit the 2050 target.
But the main subject of the podcast is climate science of the oceans. With work already showing we can create antibiotics from ocean algae and bacteria, therefore cutting the emissions of pharmaceutical synthesis, many believe the water can unlock more net zero benefits.

With housing the biggest challenge to decarbonisation and very little being done about revamping housing stock, is the answer to build every new home to be net zero? And what's it like to live in such a place? Listen in as Ian Pritchett from Greencore explains what they have done and the challenges that exist.

In this podcast I speak to John Olav Tande Chief Scientist with SINTEF, one of Europe's biggest research organisations. We discuss how we optimise wind power, particularly offshore wind. How do we make it less disruptive and less harmful to the marine environment? Can offshore wind work everywhere or is it just limited to Europe? Why does it offer the best way to rapid decarbonisation?

As the new department of Energy Security and Net Zero is launched this week, I chat to energy industry expert Wayne Mitchell about security in particular.
At the start of this winter we were told to expect blackouts, the analysts predicted bills of 5-6K for households, the government pledged billions in support with the energy price guarantee. It was expected to be armageddon.
But now wholesale energy prices have nose dived and we are sitting much more comfortably, so were the warnings just panic? Or were we just lucky with the mild weather and market flukes? How do we get energy security on the road to net zero?

The launch of National Gas means the UK's gas network is now separate from the National Grid, nothing changes in terms of pricing or the delivery of gas but could it herald gas becoming an enabler of net zero?
According to National Gas CEO Jon Butterworth, gas has more than a place as a future energy source for net zero, as it can offer a way to use green hydrogen for power. Also he says gas pipes can offer heating in places electric heat pumps can't reach, so is gas actually a more equitable source of energy?

This week I have been speaking to Dr David Pugh from Digital Catapult, about how digital technologies are, and will be even more so, at the forefront of getting us to net zero. We discuss how more and more tech will influence the way we work and also how to ensure this smart revolution is equitable, both here and across the globe.

In this episode I explore the realities of wind power, particularly at sea, is it really the greenest form of energy we have? Can it deliver the baseload we require? What about the environmental footprint of these huge turbines particularly on marine life?
Guiding me through the pros and cons of wind is Ian Taylor from Thistle Wind Partners, who has been in the sector for 20+ years. We have an honest chat about the realistic potential of wind power for net zero.
